Generally Sinhala & Tamil ‘Aluth Awruddha’ is celebrated in the month of ‘Bak’ (April) due to Sinhalese calendar. The meaning of bak came from the ‘Sanskrit’ word ‘Bhagya’. It means the ‘Fortune’. People use to reap on this month.

This Sinhala & Tamil New Year is a national holiday for Sri Lanka. People believe this day as the transit of sun from the Pisces to Aries starting a new year. So it brings a rich cultural heritage for Sri Lankans. Sri Lankans mark this day as the end of harvest & spring. They normally celebrate this day on 13th or 14th of April.

So there are many customs that they believe on this day. They use to wear new clothes on this special day. They believe that if they wear new clothes on New Year days they will get more clothes till the starting of another new year.

With a new year, new thoughts, new beginnings people wants to have better lives for forever. For this New Year there are some special colors too for people have to wear. It is changing year by year. People trust those colors as lucky colors. So they buy clothes in that colour. It is a mythology.

In Sri Lanka people are very busy buy begins of the month of March with shopping. Because of Sinhalese used to buy new clothes for this celebration. On this season time you can see every shop, every road is crowded with peoples.

So in Sri Lanka you can buy many new trends of fancy fashions with colorful accessories as you wish for this coming New Year.
